The aroma of freshly brewed drip coffee mingles with the sight of carefully baked pastries in the display case. On the 6 floor of the Tokyo Port City Takeshiba Office Tower, ballad the lab is a comfortable café where you can take a breather from a busy day.
The counter is lined with distinctive baked treats, making it easy to choose something to suit your mood. There are rustic, fragrant bakes such as whole-wheat, chocolate and banana-coconut scones, as well as carrot cake, lemon pound cake and a cake with salted caramel and macadamia nuts. For a savoury bite, try the sun-dried tomato and Parmesan salé.
The warm food menu is worth a look when you want something more substantial. The grilled cheese sandwich with 4 kinds of mushrooms has a rich, melted-cheese filling, and comes in a full or half size. Other choices include ham and cheese gratin, a tartine topped with stewed grilled vegetables and tomato and salsiccia, and a tuna salad sandwich with house-made pickles.
On weekdays, the café opens at 7:30 in the morning, making it a convenient stop for breakfast before work, a daytime break or takeaway on the way home. PayPay is accepted, too. Settle in with a freshly brewed coffee and a bake of your choice.
